I’ve recently been following a bunch of stuff being written about the privacy debate raging on in certain segments of the media, and along with reflecting on my own “public” life, it’s got me thinking a lot about just how much you really want for everybody to know.
Some might argue that we’ve moved into a new space of laying it all out there for the world to see, but I’m not sure I buy that or want that, either for myself or others. I don’t have it clear in my head yet, but I’m beginning to suspect that maybe there are parts of our inner lives that are meant to exactly that… a personal space, not for public consumption.

It’s got me thinking in the past few months about the guys I have on my friends list and some of the stuff that comes out…noteable absentees from facebook are my IT friends, perhaps they are the ones who have realised what these mediums are capable of…..My gut feeling is that apart from personal security the biggy is identity theft..no more going through peoples garbage to steal thier ID, just follow them through an online social website.
I share a lot of stuff both online and on radio, but I’m fiercely protective of my privacy and the privacy of my family.
Many people have said that they know exactly what our family is doing because they hear me on air or read my blog but they don’t realise that there’s an awful lot they don’t know. I’m very particular about the stuff I put out there and the stuff that remains private. I think the issue is when people don’t have that filter or choose not to filter things correctly.
