Holidays
November 27th, 2008 — life
There’s nothing quite like the clarifying experience of going on holidays. Suddenly you’re confronted with gobs of work that just must be done before you leave, and somehow you figure out what is most important, what can wait, and you get it done.
Imagine if you could bottle that sort of focus every day?! Wow!
We’re off to Bali for a 10 day break next week, so blogging may become even slower. Strangely, for all the travel I’ve been blessed to do, neither of us has ever been to Bali, so we’re looking forward to some nice downtime without the kids. It will be awesome and we’re really looking forward to it.
Saint Ben (not)
November 26th, 2008 — life
I am the first to admit that my beloved Saints get it wrong on a regular basis, on and off the field, and they break my heart just about every season. But, for once they did the right thing and chose not to take Ben Cousins into their roster. I fully imagined they would take him because the temptation would be too great to pass up, but for once they seem to have made a good decision.
So, one small sense of victory. If only they could do something on the field now, I might be able to start watching footy again this coming season.
The Australian Liberal Party at their best?!
November 25th, 2008 — politics
I got the email below over the weekend and it took me a few moments to realise that it was from the Liberal Party. Honestly, I was floored by the immaturity of this. Is this really the Liberal Party at its best? Is this the kind of politics they really think I’m interested in as a citizen? Where’s the discussion and debate of the big ideas and issues facing our country?
Instead, all we get is a Grade 3 approach to bagging the government (I know something about Grade 3 now, having spent recent time on a school camp!)… really poor, in my opinion. I twittered with Malcolm Turnbull (because he is such a cool guy he has a Twitter account) to let him know my disappointment, and to his credit he did actually reply (or someone representing him?!) with “noted and I will take that as a constructive criticism”… I guess we’ll see.

When the going gets tough…
November 22nd, 2008 — leadership
Words of wisdom for tough times…
“When the times get tough, the last thing companies should do is make sacrifices on the human side. You should do the exact reverse. When times get tough, it’s the leaders that you have that are going to carry you through it.” – Jerry Grandey, the CEO of Cameco Corporation, the Saskatchewan based uranium mining giant.
I came across this quote today in some reading, and I was encouraged because it echoes the direction we have chosen to pursue as a church during these financially challenging times.

Is your car still there?
November 19th, 2008 — humour, life
The title of this post is inspired by an occasion a few years ago when one of my cars had been missing for a few days without me noticing it was gone. Those who know me well know that details are not a strong point… :-)
According to the RAC, here’s the top 10 worst places in Perth for car theft:
1) Fremantle
2) Perth
3) Morley
4) Cannington
5) Mandurah
6) Joondalup
7) Armadale
8) Midland
9) Thornlie
10) Gosnells
To be honest, I’m surprised Rockingham doesn’t feature in that list, but there you have it. I’m very surprised that Joondalup and Mandurah are in there. The rest are somewhat predictable.
The most stolen car? Older Commodores. Why oh why would you steal such rubbish? This classically illustrates that thieves are not into quality but convenience. My Porsche is safe… :-)
I hope this is NOT your morning routine…

But I suspect it might be for some of the Facebook addicts out there…
