- Trimmed my Friday back manageable proportions and now tackling the list. Problem is that sermons just don’t fit nicely on todo lists. #
feeling a little slow?! lay off the email!!!
May 30th, 2008 — life
i got this amazing little snippet from tim ferriss’s blog (and a very interesting piece too, i might add)…
“A recent study at The British Institute of Psychiatry showed that checking your email while performing another creative task decreases your IQ in the moment 10 points. That is the equivalent of not sleeping for 36 hours—more than twice the impact of smoking marijuana.”
i don’t know about you, but this is rather disturbing and reinforces the need to avoid multitasking at all costs… if for no other reason than it makes you dumb.
conversely, i wonder if not checking your email makes you 10 points smarter?! :-)
wordpress upgrade
May 30th, 2008 — housekeeping, tech
snakes alive! i like cool things, and i liked that i could upgrade my wordpress to 2.5.1 by simply pressing 2 buttons and hey presto, done! nice… definitely not a microsoft product…
i’m hoping that by doing this upgrade, i might mysteriously fix the weird problem i have with twittertools blog posts being a day or so late in publishing. i have not been able to figure this one out, so hopefully this upgrade might just help. at the very least, it looks pretty good.

- Well, the US consulate turned out to be a lengthy ordeal, mostly because I always forget 1 form & their computers fritzed. But, done now… #
- Off in minute to Freo to visit someone in hospital and then off to watch Amy in a brief performance at her school, which will be great. #
- Looking forward to seeing Amy perform. Very talented, in spite of having now turned her interests from drama to medicine. Too much “Scrubs”? #
- Always good to watch a good leader in action. I’m watching Amy’s school principal work the crowd – very impressive! He’s got the moves… :) #
- God turned up a lot in the performances… Curious for a public school production! I guess He’s pretty cultured and all… :-) #

- @michaelhyatt, thanks for the mac osx update tip! hey, you should try “the uncommon reader” by alan bennett – excellent and inspiring read. #
- Oh, @michaelhyatt, btw you definitely want to get this on Audible. Alan Bennett reads it as only the author can. Enjoy! :-) #

- Melbourne tram police are VERY undercover. I thought I was being accosted by a dero. #
- Well, my luck with Qantas just keeps getting better. My Perth flight home has been so horribly delayed that they’re sending me via Adelaide. #
- Currently sitting in Adelaide waiting for my final flight home… can’t wait! Had a cool conversation with a marketing exec about church. #
- Bad thing about catching flights this late in a month is that all the puzzles in the mags are already filled out… :-( #

- Off to Melbourne for a quick Arrow Program meeting on Tues. Should be good. #
- Running 30 minutes late. Seems like every flight I’m on lately! #
- Safely in Melbourne, albeit an hour late. Seemed like Qantas was having all sorts of issues today in Perth. Lots of announcements & delays. #
- Passed at least one Krispy Kreme shop on the walk to the hotel. I think I know where breakfast might be located! :-) #
- Just love the trams in Melbourne – I love cities with well-developed public transport. Drizzley, cold day here – typical Melbourne. Love it. #
