getting old
February 8th, 2008 — life
my oldest, Joel, just turned 16 today, which is a bit of a shock. asides from the fact that he is getting to be close to my height, it’s just a tad unbelievable to think that i own a 16 year old! wow! just feel suddenly very old.
i don’t know about you all, but i sort have have this mental picture of myself as more or less in my early 30′s and it’s kind of how i feel, but it’s obviously not true and i’m going to need to readjust my perspective – i’m in lala land… :-)
interest rates
February 6th, 2008 — life
so, a little while ago the banks decided to raise their interest rates independently of the reserve bank of australia’s decision not to raise its rates at the time. they argued that there wasn’t a necessary link between their rates and the RBA’s.
now the RBA has lifted its rates, i guess we can expect the banks to not necessarily raise their automatically, right? yeah, right… i’m betting we’ll see rates rising within days, with the banks not needing too many excuses to add a little more to their staggering profit margins.
there have been many times in recent history where i have lamented deregulation in a number of key social enterprises, including the banks. i don’t think it’s been to the general betterment of australians to have so many major public institutions like banks operating unaccountably and with their only real goal being massive profit.
stupid is as stupid does
February 4th, 2008 — humour
so, doing burnouts (to me) is pretty stupid and somewhat uneconomical given the current cost of tyres, but doing them in the carpark of the local police station puts you in a special league of fools… doh!
more ugly cousins
February 4th, 2008 — church
wow! these guys make the aamish look hip and liberal…
thankfully, i’m not looking for an invite. they lost me at “king james only”…
actually, i’m trying to figure out whether they’re actually for real or not…
ugly cousins
February 4th, 2008 — life
these turkeys are like those ugly cousins you wish you didn’t have… jeepers creepers…
blackberry and mac
February 3rd, 2008 — tech
i love my blackberry pearl (although i would sorely love a curve!), and i definitely love my macbook, but the pocketmac software provided by blackberry for syncing their phones with apple machines has to be about the worst software i have ever come across, and i don’t say that lightly. it is absolutely terrible – ridiculously inept piece of programming, and i just find it incredible that RIM would have countenanced it as their official sync software for macs.
it’s a bit of bind for me, because i love both of these devices and i desperately need for them to talk to each other. i’m currently using mark/spaces’ “missing sync” product, and so far so good, although i’ve experienced a few quirks with that too. but, so far, at least it hasn’t completely crashed my mac like pocketmac did – ridiculous software…
big day out
February 2nd, 2008 — church
each year we try to do something cool to honour and thank the many folks who make warnbro church the great place it is, who serve and volunteer and minister in a stack of ways every week. the last couple of years we have paid for them all to enjoy a day at adventure world, and today we had over 200 folks head to the park for a bunch of fun in the sun. the weather was perfect for it (last year we got seriously soaked during the first part of the day!), and it was a huge day out… feel bombed after so much sun and water and rides… wow! but, it was just fantastic to see the core of warnbro church out together, and it was an awesome day. kudos to the team who made it all happen… really excellent work!
the rumours of my death
February 1st, 2008 — life
i felt a bit like mark twain last night when somebody told me that they had been approached by someone who had said that they had heard that i’d resigned from my role at warnbro. weird stuff! just wonder how such things get started… gee, you go on hols for a few weeks and the next thing you know… :-)
